I thought I would share more with you about where we purchase our weekly milk.
Not far from where we live, a family that moved here from Georgia has opened a farm store, and they work on this farm as a family and provide many items to our local community. When we first visited the farm, they gave us a free half gallon of their raw, farm fresh milk as well as yogurt. I'm not one to drink a glass of milk daily, but because of the many components it contains to strengthen the immune system; I do consume it alone or in oatmeal or cooking just like milk I previously purchased. I like to think of the raw milk as taking a probiotic. It has much of the good bacteria that our guts need.
This family farm sells whole chickens, eggs, butter, milk, cheeses, baked goods, honey, granola as well as other meats. So far, we have only tried the honey, granola, cashew bars, yogurt, and milk. The yogurt has a very different taste to it than store bought, I like to add some honey to sweeten it up some. Of course, because their products are made fresh and are pretty close to organic, or more so than traditional foods, they do cost more.
I feel that the way this family lives off of their land and provides food for their family is much like the way God intended for our lives to be like. I admire their passion for what they believe and what they do. Ashleigh has talked before about living off the grid – not having anything to do with ‘the world.' Isn't that how people lived years ago? And what a simpler time it was – homeschooling your children and teaching them to work and know where their food comes from. I have to say I am impressed by their lifestyle and others who do the same thing, yet I guess you would say I am like the rest of society – chasing the American dream
I hope to continue to purchase our milk from this family. I would also like to visit farmers markets over the summer and take advantage of all the fresh produce available to us. Just in case our garden doesn't do well – ha!! Take a look at their website and read more about what they do!!!
