Being an organized individual sounds like it would be an easy thing to do, right? I would consider myself to be a neat person but not OCD or anything like that. There is nothing wrong with that either. We live in a small house, not the smallest house there ever was, but after having one kid, it seems like it is shrinking. You know what I mean, the toys are everywhere, the clutter starts to pile up, and before you know it another one is on the way then you have the only other two bedrooms in the house turned upside down. I'm not there quite yet, but I feel it coming.
We have tried to make use of what little closet space we have to arrange things so that we have our son's new closet clutter free and room for all of his clothes and things. We have consolidated our ‘things' aka junk and important things. We have a little pack rat in us, and our fridge and other spaces prove that. We are a work in progress.
Between the kitchen counter, table, refrigerator and the living room floor- there is always room for improvement. When the mail comes in the house, I try to look it over right then and there and do with it what I need to do. I read that you if you will only handle things once then you are less likely to pick it up again. So, do something with it right then before it starts to pile up. Sounds easy right? When you are in a hurry or don't have the time right then to look through it or file it where it should go, it sits, and then the clutter begins. Then you have toys, old toys, and new ones. I have given some to the grandparents so he'd have some up there to play with which cleans out a bit at home. The clothes that he has outgrown, I have given plenty away and consigned some also. I still have plenty more around to go through. Since we have decided we aren't going to find out what baby #2 is, I'm just holding on to boy clothes in case I want to use a lot of them again. They will be in the same season, so that's a win!
There are so many areas I need to work on to be more organized. I hope that once I start in one aspect, it will overflow into other parts – meal planning, cabinets, refrigerator, and closets, all of it. Sometimes it's frustrating to work with small spaces and little storage areas, but I think when I have a bigger home it will just be filled with stuff. I try to make a habit of keeping closets and drawers cleaned out of clothes that we no longer wear and other household things. Why do we need to hang onto something we don't wear, or we never use?!
What areas in your home or life do you struggle with keeping it all together and organized? I know I'm not the only one!! Stay tuned, and I will be posting about turning my son's room into his new big boy room!
In the meantime, here is a little help to kick start your organization off and set goals each week!
