Greetings from Sister #2
I am the middle sister, Holly aka the mediator or the people pleaser as Sister #1 likes to call me. Glad to be here and post a little something!
So I have been on this natural living journey for a while now. I’ve been slowly cutting out junk food, being more conscious of what goes on my skin and in my body – that is a topic for another post, another day. Life gets busy, doesn’t it? I’ve tried to become better at meal planning and what I spend on groceries. I used to go to the store, buy what I want or what we needed, and from that make meals. Quickly it became overwhelming when at the end of the day I still didn’t know what we were going to have for dinner…not cool.
We pretty much eat the same meals at home from week to week. Now, I will incorporate a new meal about every month, and hopefully, it’s one liked by all. Knowing what we like to eat makes it much easier to meal plan. There are two nights out of the week that we don’t eat at home, two meals I don’t have to plan…very nice. There are still five other nights, though!! I have found it much easier and cost efficient to buy groceries every two weeks. I plan my meals for two weeks, make my list, and double check my kitchen/pantry to make sure I don’t already have some of the things I need. Then I shop, but my work has just begun!! I don’t know about you, but I’m more likely, much more liable to eat fresh fruit in my fridge if it has been washed, cut, etc. So that is my next step – I wash my produce and do what prepping I can for that week. This week, I bought a whole chicken and cooked it in the crockpot. After taking it out and falling off the bone; yum, I bagged three pounds separately in freezer bags to use in meals!! I left a couple of pounds out for the remainder of the week for meals and sandwiches. Tada!!!
Simple things like this make life easier if you ask me. Oh and Pinterest, where would I be without that site?! How handy it is!! I could spend a whole day in the kitchen just planning, prepping and making batches of muffins, meals, and other things to go in the freezer to pull out in the future… why did we ever get rid of the deep freezer?!? I’m huge on snacking, and having food to eat so I think that’s another reason I like to have food readily available, healthy food that is.
