Raise your hand if you just love going to the store to buy necessities for the house?
If you're a coupon user, you usually have your plans made out as to which products or brands you need. Having a list is nice as well, or you buy the same kind of brand each and every time you go. I usually go for the one that smells the cleanest or looks the prettiest.
I always thought by making your own “stuff” to use around the house was just being plain cheap.
Honestly, I thought that's stupid, just buy it when it's already made. Why take the time out to make something when you don’t have to. I mean seriously, who doesn’t love picking up a detergent pod and throwing it in the washer. It's easy, clean and quick. Plus you didn’t have to take time out of your super busy day to make anything.
Well, guess what? Things have changed, and my mind thinks differently.
I am all into using essential oils at home and just a lot of natural stuff I can get my hands on. Which BTW you would never believe how many natural things have been in front of us our entire life and we had no clue.
So here I am a hippie loving mama (to an extent); my husband says we are going off grid one day. We shall see about that. Using my oils to treat and clean. So with all that said, I needed more laundry detergent, I had used up all that I had made before. This time I made it a little differently and left out the Borax this time. I had been reading and noticed it can irritate some people's skin. My husband is all the time itching, so I thought I would leave this out and see if it even makes a difference. I think it's the chlorine in our water that makes him itch.
I have never once had a problem with my homemade washing detergent. It works perfect for us and cleans wonderfully!
Plus the ingredients go a long way. I make mine in small batches, though. So this recipe makes about 80Tbsp. I use 1 Tbsp per load. Sometimes I add extra if I am doing a big load.
Homemade Laundry Detergent:
Time: 20 min. Yields: 80 Tbsp
- 1 1/2 cups of Baking Soda
- 1 1/2 Cups of Super Washing Soda
- 1 cup of Biz (I like it better than Oxi-Clean)
- 1 bar of Fels-Naptha Soap (or any soap you prefer)
- Ten drops of Pure Lemon Essential Oil (optional)
- Ten drops of Pure Cleaning Blend Essential Oil (optional)
- Food Processor
I put my grater blade in my food processor, and that's how I “chopped” my bar of soap. I then added the Baking Soda, Washing Soda, and Biz blended until mixed well. I then added my drops of Essential Oils and blended again. I pour it in my clear glass I keep close to my washing machine and use it a 1 Tbsp at a time.
